而EIGRP所使用的累积延迟则是在源网络与目的网络之间所有接口延迟的和。对路径中任何一个延迟数值的修改都会影响到EIGRP度量值的计算。接口延迟数值是通过使用接口配置命令`delay`进行调整的。该数值在用于EIGRP度量值计算时会除以10。下图36.9演示了一个由两台通过两条有着1544Kbps的带宽及默认20000微秒的延迟串行T1链路连接的路由器所组成的网络。此外网络`172.16.100.0/24`是直接连接到一个快速以太网接口的该以太网接口有着默认100000Kbps的带宽以及默认100微秒的延迟数值

那么从路由器R2到网络`172.16.100.0/24`的EIGRP度量值的计算如下
度量值 = [(10^7/路径上的最小带宽) + (延迟综合)] x 256
度量值 = [(10000000/1544) + (2000+10)] x 256

与使用`bandwidth`命令一样为了对EIGRP的度量值计算施加影响我们既可以使用`delay`命令对接口延迟数值进行提升也可以对其进行降低。比如为了将路由器R2配置为使用链路`Serial0/0`到达`172.16.100.0/24`网络,而将`Serial0/1`仅用作一条备份链路,那么就可以如下将`Serial0/0`上的延迟数值进行降低:

此配置就对经由`Serial0/0`的路径的EIGRP度量值进行了调整如下所示
